Colloquium 2011
An Action Research Colloquium took place at Waterford Institute of Technology on the 9th and 10th June 2011. This was the first time action researchers in Ireland convened in a colloquium to discuss their practice and research.
Action Research is a method of enquiry that engages theory and practice in the solution of real problems. The two-day interdisciplinary event brought together over 70 delegates from 22 institutions in Ireland. The colloquium provided an opportunity for researchers to present their work and to engage with critical issues emerging in the field. The programme was designed to facilitate discussion and debate on action research in business, education and healthcare. In comparison to conventional conferences, this enabled greater engagement among delegates throughout the event.
The colloquium raised a number of issues on how action research can develop and how it can engage with and support communities of practice. It is anticipated that this event could become an annual occurrence and will build upon the work done at the colloquium to provide stronger support and resources for people wishing to engage in action research projects.
